FOIA Request to Town of Knightdale regarding vendor payment registers on February 1, 2026.

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Town of Knightdale on February 1, 2026, by East Wake Times. The request seeks access to the city’s vendor payment register for the immediately preceding calendar month. The information requested includes the names of vendors paid by the city, dates and amounts of payments, and descriptions of goods or services purchased.

The request was made under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. ยง132-1., with a preference for receiving the records in electronic format. It is emphasized that this request pertains only to existing records and does not necessitate the creation of new documents. In case any part of this request is denied or withheld, a specific statutory basis for such denial is requested along with all reasonably segregable portions of the records.

East Wake Times has indicated that as a member of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, they seek a fee waiver based on their role in disseminating information and holding public institutions accountable. Additionally, it is noted that the requester is affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, an organization that assists media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through FOIA requests.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
