The Wake County School Board is considering options about how to reopen the district after it was closed because of COVID-19.
More than 600 watched the live virtual meeting on June 2 as administrators talked about possible roadmaps for schools opening to students and faculty again, CBS 17 reported.
Part of the discussion was about when schools should reopen, CBS 17 reported. One plan floated was to have Knightdale High School, North Wake College and Career Academy, Vernon Malone College, and Career Academy and Wake Early College of Health and Sciences open on Aug. 5.
The working date for Leadership Academies is Aug. 3, and Wake Stem Early College could reopen on Aug. 6, CBS 17 reported.
Each of the suggestions will also come with five days of remote learning, which are allowed to be used at the kickoff of the school year, and an extra five days via the session law, CBS reported.
“Teachers may choose not to teach if they’re required to come into a classroom with 20 kids while we’re still trying to shake ourselves from this pandemic," board member Bill Fletcher said, CBS 17 reported. "I’m not calling you out I’m calling the legislature out."
The school board will hold a work session on Monday, June 15 and a regular meeting on Tuesday, June 16.
