TOWN OF HOLLY SPRINGS: Economic Development Director Earns Statewide Honor

Awrd

Town of Holly Springs issued the following announcement on June 13.

Irena Krstanovic, the Town’s Director of Economic Development, has been named N.C. Economic Developer of the Year.

The prestigious honor was presented Wednesday evening at the N.C. Economic Developers Association (NCEDA) annual conference. The award was presented by NCEDA in recognition for her contributions to economic development in the state.

Under Irena’s leadership, Holly Springs has experienced unparalleled success in the recruitment of major companies as it continues building a national reputation as a hub for biotechnology and life sciences.

In March 2021, FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies announced that it would build a biopharmaceutical plant in Holly Springs providing more than 700 high-quality jobs. The $2 billion investment was the largest life sciences investment ever announced in N.C.

Amgen, one of the world’s leading biotechnology companies, announced last August that it would build a $550 million manufacturing facility here that will employ more than 350.

Construction on Amgen and FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies is underway.

Most recently, Seqirus completed an expansion of its manufacturing facility for seasonal and pandemic flu vaccines. The Holly Springs facility is the largest of its kind in the country.

Small business development downtown also has been a focus for Holly Springs Economic Development.

Irena works closely with industry partners such as Wake County Economic Development, N.C. Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of N.C., public utility companies, and site selection groups.
