Town of Holly Springs issued the following announcement on Nov. 7.
A year after its opening, UNC Health Rex Holly Springs Hospital announced plans for continued growth and expansion in Town.
“It’s unbelievable how things have changed in a year, said Roy Tempke, the hospital’s vice president and chief operating officer at the Holly Springs Town Council meeting on Nov. 1.
Tempke discussed plans to add 24 beds to the hospital’s seventh floor with work beginning within the next six months. The hospital also plans on adding another office building and parking garage on the campus.
“We are going to grow,” Tempke said.
The hospital, which opened in November 2021, was a roughly $170 million investment to build a seven-story, 242,000-square-foot facility. The hospital employs roughly 400 employees and offers 50 inpatient beds, a labor & delivery department, a surgery center, diagnostic imagery, a pharmacy, and an emergency department.
Since its opening, hospital activities have included:
22,127 emergency room visits
1,885 surgeries
500 births
Tempke spoke about the community outreach ingrained in the hospital’s culture.
“We can do things in a small town you simply you cannot do … in a larger town, in a larger hospital,” Tempke said. “We have these relationships, we have these interactions, and it’s so valuable. The staff appreciates that, and the patents who come to see us appreciate it.”
