Town of Holly Springs issued the following announcement on May 13.
Lt. Jessica McMillan, a 16-year veteran of the Holly Springs Police Department, will become interim police chief when John Herring retires late this month.
Town Manager Randy Harrington announced the appointment. “She’s a strong police professional and has earned a high degree of respect from her colleagues,” he said.
McMillan’s career includes nine years in patrol, six years in investigations, and five years as a member of the department’s Special Response Team.
She received her Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from East Carolina University. McMillan possesses an Advanced Law Enforcement certification and recently completed the N.C. State Law Enforcement Executive program.
Herring retires May 29 after more than 26 years with the Holly Springs Police Department. He has served as chief since July 2006.
The town is conducting a nationwide search for Herring’s replacement. Harrington hopes to choose a new chief by midsummer.
