U.S. Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC) recognized a Rowan County law enforcement officer in July for his recent heroic actions.
The Republican congressman lauded Detective Josh Simmons in a July 24 Facebook post. Simmons saw a burning car while driving down Highway 52, stopped, and sprang into action.
“When he approached, he found an elderly woman unable to get out,” Budd said of Simmons in his Facebook post. “He pulled her from the car just minutes before it went up in flames.”
The lawmaker said the detective drew inspiration from his upbringing.
“Detective Simmons said of his actions, ‘The way I was raised, you take care of people. I didn’t know who was in the car, it didn’t matter who they were… They needed help,’” Budd wrote.
Budd said his community is "truly lucky" to have someone like Simmons looking out for citizens, calling on his constituents to continue supporting law enforcement.
