Town of Knightdale issued the following announcement on July 7.
Today is International Plastic-Free Day! Why is today important? For starters, most people only use a plastic bag one time, then throw it away, perpetuating a massive problem for our planet. Each year, 8 million metric tons of plastic end up in the ocean harming fish and wildlife. When plastic enters the food chain, it can also harm human health.
Today we encourage you to reduce your reliance on plastic bags. Commit to cutting down on the use of plastic bags, use reusable bags for shopping, and/or educate others on the adverse effects plastic bags have on the environment. Read more about how you can impact this global issue, and be sure to spread the awareness about today!
