The North Carolina Courage have announced a three-year contract extension with defender Ryan Williams, securing her presence in the team through the 2027 NWSL season. The new agreement extends Williams' stay beyond her previous contract, which was set to expire at the end of the 2025 season.

Williams has emerged as a leading defensive player in the league this year, topping all defenders with 55 tackles and 54 interceptions. She also leads in offensive contributions among defenders, delivering 39 more passes into the final third than any other defender this season. Her performance includes ranking in the top five for chances created and duels won among defenders.

Expressing her excitement about the extension, Williams said, “Re-signing with the Courage means everything to me. I am so honored and so grateful to be extending my contract for three more years." She emphasized her appreciation for "the coaching staff, the fans, and, of course, my teammates," adding that she is optimistic about what lies ahead for the team.

Head Coach Sean Nahas praised Williams' dedication and contribution to the team: “This extension is a culmination of commitment, dedication, drive, willingness to learn, effort and coachability." He noted her importance to both their backline and overall team culture.

Chief Soccer Officer Curt Johnson also lauded Williams' work ethic: “This is so well deserved for Ryan. She has put in the work every single day behind the scenes to earn more and more playing time and opportunities."

Drafted by Courage in 2018 after a notable collegiate career at TCU, Williams steadily increased her role on the team before becoming a regular starter in 2023. Her achievements include setting personal records this year across various metrics such as tackles won and passing accuracy.

Throughout her tenure with North Carolina Courage, Williams has contributed to winning seven trophies including two NWSL Shields and two NWSL Championships. In college at TCU, she earned several accolades including being named First Team All-Big 12 as a senior.

Williams will join her teammates as they face Kansas City Current in Saturday's quarterfinals of the NWSL playoffs.
