The North Carolina Courage have announced the signing of forward Hannah Betfort to a two-year contract, extending through the 2026 NWSL season with an option for 2027. The club made the announcement on Friday. Betfort, originally from Charleston, South Carolina, and an alumna of Wake Forest University, previously played for the Utah Royals in 2024.
Betfort began her professional career after being drafted 37th overall by the Portland Thorns in the 2021 NWSL Draft. She spent three seasons with the Thorns before being traded to Utah prior to the 2024 NWSL Expansion Draft.
At Wake Forest, Betfort played both as a forward and defender but has focused on attacking roles in her professional career. In regular season play, she has accumulated five goals and created 18 chances over 2,292 minutes. Her performance peaked in 2024 with two goals and a passing accuracy of 81% over 1,674 minutes.
Expressing enthusiasm about her return to the East Coast, Betfort stated: “I am so excited to finally return home to the Carolinas for the opportunity to wear this crest and play for this club. Let’s get to work!”
Courage Head Coach Sean Nahas commented on her signing: “Signing Hannah is great for us. She adds a different dynamic to our front line that maybe we haven’t had. She gives us flexibility and can threaten back lines with her movements, provide energy in our press, and give opposition something different to think about."
During her college years at Wake Forest, Betfort was twice named team captain and earned All-ACC Third Team honors in 2020. Starting as a walk-on player, she quickly made an impact with five goals during her freshman year.
Betfort is set to join North Carolina Courage at their preseason training camp next week in Cary.
